n November 2019 PM Modi announced his ambition to make India a $5 trillion economy by 2024, and in a pre-budget exercise at NITI Aayog at the start of 2020 discussed a host of suggestions for reviving economic growth and improving engagement between policy makers and diverse stakeholders towards achieving that aim. Even as the country was taking steps towards this grand ambition the juggernaut of COVID-19 brought to a halt the economy pushing more people than ever before into joblessness and poverty.

She founded and led the Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangathan, an organization of rural women, initiating processes for mobilizing, organizing and training rural women, as well as organization building. Her other organizations, SETU—a network of 18 grass-roots, resource-facilitation centres in clusters of 15–20 villages across the district of Kutch; K-LINK—an information communication technology organization, which works to make ICTs accessible, and applicable to developmental needs; and Khamir, an organization that works for the empowerment of crafts people.

Apoorva Oza is the Chief Executive Officer of Aga Khan Rural Support Programme—AKRSP—(India). He is a mechanical engineer with a diploma in rural management from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA). He has also done a course on Strategies for Change: Managing NGOs, from Cranford University, United Kingdom, and a three-month course from Cornell University, USA. Apoorva Oza started his career as a Deputy Manager (Projects and Engineering) with Gujarat Dairy Development Corporation. He joined AKRSP (India) as a Programme Coordinator in 1988 and moved up to the position of Senior Programme Executive in 1994.
