Madurai: The people of a parched village in Sivaganga district have come together and dug a tank for themselves with the help of an NGO. They inaugurated the tank with much fanfare recently.
Vandal is a small village of about 150 families in Ilayangudi panchayat union in Sivaganga district. During summer, water has been an issue in the village, where people have to spend a lot of time trying to access water. Hence, they decided to dig a tank for themselves with a New Delhi-based NGO, Pradan.
As many as 23 families in the village came together to offer portions of their land to dig the 1.85-acre tank. Villagers say that the value of the land donated will come around Rs 80 lakh.
