Indravati, hailing from Mandla district in Madhya Pradesh has always been a motorbike enthusiast. It was a matter of great joy for her when her brother Manoj taught her how to ride a motorbike at a young age. Unfortunately, she lost her brother in a bike accident, and it took her four years to come to terms with it. This tragic experience, however, steeled her resolve to pursue a profession in mechanics.
Indravati earned her bachelor’s degree in science, which is extremely uncommon among girls in India’s most isolated regions. As a result, pursuing a job that required technological expertise appeared to be a viable alternative.
She learned about the Yuwashastra programme, which is run by non-profit organisation PRADAN. Yuwashastra has given the youth of the region the opportunity to improve their abilities and lead a life of their own choosing right at their homes, a life distinct from that of most rural residents. Then can explore and learn skills based on their own interests and market demand, allowing them to make more informed career choices.
