Unlocking the Value Potential of Tasar Sericulture

Status

Research project came to a close. Two-staged research is completed: “Tasar and sericulture: Building an econo-social and ecological perspective for livelihoods”, and the “Search for Sarihan”. Papers to be written.

Stakeholders

The Centre for Development Practice at AUD with PRADAN, Tasar Development Foundation (TDF), Sudeshna Mazumdar at the Department of Botany, Delhi University; C Babu at the Center for Management of Degraded Ecosystems, Delhi University, the Central Silk Board (CSB) and ECOTASAR.

Some highlights of activities during this period:

  • Presentation of paper, “Tasar and Sericulture”, by all four researchers in CDP. It was reviewed by Astad Patakia.
  • Submitted abstract to the 2019 International Union of Forest Research Organizations, Small-scale Forestry Conference, Duluth, USA
  • Undertook “Search for Sarihan”: Satyabarata Acharyya and Rajendra Khandai with the tasar farmers undertook the journey/march.
